Asha for Education presents Work An Hour (WAH) 2006 Ninth annual global event to raise $160,000 and impact 11 projects in India

Press Release Summary = Houston, TX - September 5th, 2006 -- Asha for Education (Asha), a non-profit action group that works towards socio-economic change in India through education, announces Work An Hour (WAH) 2006. WAH 2006, held between July 4 and October 2, is an online global event where individuals symbolically work for the children of India by contributing an hour's worth of their salary towards Asha's project partners. The event begins on July 4th, the American Independence Day, covering August 15th, the Indian Independence Day, and September 5th, celebrated as teacher's day in India, and culminating on October 2nd, Gandhi's Birthday. Asha's project partners chosen for WAH support have a history of working with one or more Asha chapters, and funds are given for both infrastructure costs and operational expenses. After a review process, 11 partner groups all over India have been selected to receive WAH 2006 funds.
Press Release Body = WAH is Asha's largest fundraising event and brings together all 66 Asha chapters, more than 1,000 volunteers and many more supporters across the globe, to jointly raise over $160,000 to support over 4000 children in India this year. In 2005, Asha raised more than $97,000 to support 18 partner groups through WAH.
